Personal Life Update: Middle School Graduations, Archery Obsessions, and One Very Romantic Yacht

Last Friday, Bridger officially became a high schooler—and I’m still wrapping my brain around it. His commencement ceremony was held outside on the West Jefferson Middle School football field, the kind of event that tugs at your heart in unexpected ways. For me, the emotional gut punch came when I saw him goofing off with his friends afterward. He adores those kids. And even though I sometimes wish they all had a touch more ambition, I can’t deny the bond they share. They have each other’s backs. And honestly? That might be more important in life than a padded résumé.

Speaking of ambition, Bridger has big (and salty) dreams: opening a bait and tackle shop in New Zealand with his friends. I’m doing my best to loosen the white-knuckle grip on expectations and just enjoy the view from the passenger seat. He’s only 14. Dreams shift. But hey, if fish and freedom are calling him, who am I to judge? As long as there’s a solid education backup plan in the mix, I’ll happily support the adventure.

Sterling, meanwhile, wrapped up third grade and is now a proud fourth grader. He had a major growth year, and we’re all so proud of him. We celebrated with a spontaneous archery day at the American Bowman Club in Bailey—and let me tell you, he’s now a kid on a mission. He initially wanted to freestyle it (because why would you listen to instructions when there are arrows involved?), but eventually realized that proper technique really does make a difference. His favorite part? Repeatedly shooting the zombie targets square in the forehead. What can I say… we raise 'em quirky.

We’re also working through some bittersweet goodbyes. One of Sterling’s best friends is moving to North Carolina, so we’re currently hosting a goodbye playdate-slash-double-sleepover (possibly triple if emotions get high enough). It’s a tough one, but I’m hoping memories, movies, and maybe too much sugar will soften the blow.

On Memorial Day, my visiting sister and I did a scaled version of the Murph workout. And by “scaled” I mean we didn’t die, but my legs are still staging a quiet protest. My sister, who’s here from Sweden for a conference before her wedding next month, is soaking in every bit of Colorado, including five-hour car rides with Tag just for fun. Apparently, when you live somewhere with flawless public transport, even traffic feels like a cultural experience.

We’ll see her again in July when we fly out for her wedding in Sweden, then hop down to Madeira for a family-style honeymoon. Yes, you read that right. Nothing says "newlyweds" like dragging your siblings and their children across the Atlantic. It’s going to be chaotic and beautiful—and I can’t wait.

But first up: June. Cabo. Tag. A yacht. A wedding. A chance to dance in the sun and wear something not covered in cat hair, snack crumbs, or CrossFit chalk. I am ready.

Real Estate Update: Maycember Mayhem and the Memorial Day Market Dip

As we near the end of May—aka “Maycember”—the real estate market is doing its usual seasonal shuffle. If you’re new to the term, Maycember is what happens when May decides to cosplay as December: full calendars, frantic parents, end-of-school everything, and social events layered on social events. Now throw in Memorial Day weekend, and you've got yourself a recipe for one of the slowest real estate weekends of the spring.

We all know what Memorial Day weekend brings: camping trips, pool openings, barbecues, and if you live in my neighborhood… lots of yard sales. What it doesn’t bring? Showings. They typically drop by 40–60%, and pending contracts lag as buyers trade home tours for hammocks.

So here’s the advice:

  • Buyers: This past weekend (May 24–26) was your golden window. With fewer people out shopping, it was a chance to tour homes without tripping over the competition.

  • Sellers: If your home sat a little quieter than expected—don’t stress. This wasn’t the weekend to list or drop your price. Interest will bounce back as buyers return from their three-day weekends and re-engage with the market.

That said, just before the holiday lull, we saw a strong pop of activity. The weekend of May 17–18 marked a real uptick in showing traffic and homes going under contract—especially in well-priced, move-in-ready listings. Buyers were getting more decisive, and the market temporarily tightened in hot zones across the foothills and Denver metro.

Now, with summer officially kicking off, we’re expecting momentum to return quickly. I’m seeing more conversations turning into contracts, and more buyers feeling the pressure to move before the school year rolls around again.

So if you're buying: keep your eyes open this weekend. If you're selling: next week might just be your sweet spot.
